Service Learning april 28- may 2
On Friday meeting we disscused the possiblities of us having a food company to sponser us and we though about having the school go out for lunch. The successful thing about our meeting was the fact that we got somethign plan like for us to actually go out to the people and ask if they can sponser us. Problems that we encountered was coming up with a way to get us out for lunch. In the group I can research on what foods is good for us and try to get the roup members to consider it.

Service Learning Meeting
In my service learning group nutrition we discuss how to make school lunches better and why. There was a lot of things that were discuss such as what should be done, how we can make it better and what the lunches was like at this school compared to other high school lunches. A lot of things that we discuss we agreed and disagreed about some of the stuff like having these lunches was not fair.Overall our group discuss was interesting and for Thursday's meeting I plan to discuss what foods should be given based on what people like and if we should go out for lunch. I hope my group can make a difference and better the school lunches for us. Also I think we should discuss about our progress that was made so far.I feel that our goal to get better lunches will be met.

The subject I made progress in
The class I made progress in is science. We are studying forces like gravity and friction. I Think I really improved in this subject because I payed more attention and learning this new lesson help me improve my grade. Also the work from study island that I completed helped me a lot. Since I started doing better in this subject I learned a lot more that I didn't know. This subject has became one of my favorite subjects besides Spanish. I also hope to do the same for the rest of the school year.

Service Learning
For my service learning project I thought about doing...
1) work at the Constitution Center
2) Lupus Foundation of America and
3) work at children's hospital. I have researched jobs to do for service learning.

NHD Reflection
During my experience with NHD It took hard work. My partners and I had difficult times while during research and looking for sources. Another thing was trying to make sure that we did our part of the documentary and that the annotations got done. Through working on NHD it was something that we all learned about such as, making smart choices, choosing ideas and turning the work in on time. Even though we struggled the project turned out great. NHD gave us a lot of stress and made it hard to get other work done for other classes. It was also a big part of our grade and my partners and I found out that we did a good job in the end as our project got done getting us a good grade.

Should Parents be Allowed to Beat Their Children?
I believe that parents should not be allowed to hit their children. For one since parents are in control they feel as though that they can just beat their children and call it discipline. Another reason is that some parents just beat their kids just to beat them such as taking out anger on them, which is called child abuse. No child should be beaten to the point where there are bruises showing somewhere on them. There are other ways to discipline children, not just beating them because half the time it does not work.
Since parents are already in control they feel as though that they can just beat their children and call it discipline. Hitting kids obviously doesn’t solve anything because if a child does something wrong and they get hit for it it’s like that’s the end of story. But the question is what if they do it again? Are they just going to get hit and once the parent is tired of their child acting up they can hit their child to the point where it’s abuse. That’s why today parents get their child taken away from them or either is going to jail.
Certain times parents beat their children for no reason. For example as their parents were growing up their parents could have been beating them, so now that they have children they could have picked up that habit of the past. Now they are beating their children. This is why I don’t think parents should beat their children because of the fact that it’s hurting them and I don’t think it is right.
In conclusion, I believe parents don’t have a right to beat their kids just because they are in control. They already feel as though beating children is the right and only way to discipline kids. Also since they are in control they must think that nothing will happen to them such as getting their child taking away from them.

Should Huckleberry Finn be taught in School?
I believe that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should not be taught at CHS, because it has bad examples that children can pick up and follow. It’s filled with violence, theft, abuse, and misused language. That’s why I believe this book is not good for young children and should not be taught at CHS.
“Miss Watson’s big nigger Jim was setting in the kitchen door.” This is an example of what I’m talking about, the word nigger is used repeatedly, and there are lots of misspelled words. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn does not qualify any educational sense that someone young should read. I feel that you won’t get anything out of it, because of the fact that it would put people into being bad influences. For example little kids follow after their older siblings.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn discusses issues of abuse. In the book Huckleberry’s dad abuses him just because he’s going to school to get an education. No child should read a book like this even if they are mature. Also the father gets drunk and struggles with the “death angel,” which caused him to chase Huck around with a knife nearly about to kill him. Actions taken place in this book can cause issues to children in this society today.
Most importantly, violence is the main issue. Stealing, and murders are discussed by the little boys that are in a gang. “Now, says Ben Rogers, What’s the line of business of this gang?” “Nothing only robbery and murder, “Tom said.” Now clearly this example would give kids and maybe even mature young adults ideas to do these things. So why should we be taught this book if every chapter gives an idea of something bad
In conclusion, I strongly disagree that we should be able to learn about The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It discusses no good and it uses misused language. Most importantly we wouldn’t want young adults to think of what they can do just by reading a book. That’s why I feel this book should not be taught at CHS.
